Nov. 2’s general election is just around the corner, and Tribal officials are urging Todd County residents to register and vote.
Absentee voting began on Sept. 21, and will continue until Oct. 18, which is the last day to register for this year’s general election.
Todd County residents can visit the County Building in Mission from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays, to register and vote absentee.
Voters can also register at the Social Services building, the Driver’s License station (4-H Fair grounds on Highway 83 south of town) and the City Finance Office on Main Street, all in Mission.
To register to vote in South Dakota, you must:
* Be a U.S. citizen
* Reside in South Dakota
* Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
* Not be currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction which included imprisonment, served or suspended, in an adult penitentiary system
* Not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law
To register:
* Complete the entire registration form by printing the requested information.
* If you are currently registered to vote, please also fill out the cancellation on the bottom of the form.
* Return the form to the county auditor in your county of residence.
* You will receive a notice from your county auditor that your registration has been received. If you do not receive this notice within 15 days, please contact your county auditor.
