The Rosebud Sioux Tribal President’s Office took time to recognize the doctors and nurses at Rosebud Dialysis on Sept. 21.
Mary Valdez, a former patient, presented the certificates and prepared a meal for her caregivers.
“I really appreciate them,” Valdez said. “They keep us alive.”
Dr. Dee Peterson, who visits once a month from Sioux Falls to work received a certificate of appreciation. She described the facility as a literal “life and death place.”
“It’s a difficult thing,” Peterson said. “It’s a complicated health issue.”
According to Rita Engle, who works at the dialysis unit, 1 in 6 people will end up on dialysis. That’s why she’s been doing what she does since 1989 – and doesn’t plan on stopping.
“We’ve been here a long, long time,” said Engle. “I’d like people to know we’re here, and we’re here for everybody.”
Other physicians and workers who received certificates of appreciation were:
Robert Bergstrom
Karen Douville
Rita Engle
Justin Engle
Charla Buettner
Kevin Marshall
