Visual artist Randall Blaze conducted clay sculpture workshops for St. Francis Indian School Gifted and Talented art students and high school Native American Crafts and Sculpture classes Sept. 21-26. Mr. Blaze was very complimentary of the artistic skills of the 86 student artists. He led the students in creating self-portrait busts, turtles, and vases out of nearly 500 lbs. of low-heat white clay. The creations will be fired after they dry. Some will be glazed while others will be painted with acrylic.
Randall Blaze is a Native American visual artist working in metalsmithing, acrylic oil painting, bronze designs and pottery forms. He draws inspiration from his people’s ancestral designs. His goal is to help record and integrate visual elements of the Lakota Nation into the contemporary mainstream of the world around us. He has received numerous awards for his work.
This program was sponsored by SFIS Gifted and Talented Program with support provided by the SD Arts Council with funds from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism and State Development, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
