»Failure to follow safety procedures causes accident

High winds had many people questioning whether or not they wanted to take the car out for a drive on Thursday, April 19th.
If you were traveling on highway 18 going west of Mission at around 9:30 a.m., you may have noticed the train car on the north side of the road in the ditch. High gusts of wind caused a semi pulling a single train cart to lose control and topple over. Three trucks from A&R trucking out of Chamberland, SD were sent out to help remove the train car from the ditch.
The semi was from Texas and was coming from Grand Island, NE. The driver of the semi who’s name could not be revealed, ignored a high wind alert on his CB, which in turn caused the accident. The driver was taken to Rosebud Hospital with minor bumps and bruises and was discharged just a few hours later.
Ten hours after the semi blew over at about 7 p.m., the train car was finally out of the ditch and sent on its way.
“I’m just glad no one else was hurt and it would be best for over size loads to follow road safety procedures while trucking through the reservation so future accidents can be avoided.” said Sheriff Joe Farmer.
A big thank you to the BIA Fire Department and staff at the Water Resources in Rosebud for their help in cleaning up after the wreck.
