Sinte Gleska University was founded 42 years ago in 1970.
Last week, the SGU community and surrounding supporters got together to celebrate the beginning. SGU’s 42nd annual Founders Week celebration filled each day with many different activities and presentations. From honoring and recognizing students and staff, to family fun night and of course the always exciting Founders Day Wacipi.
The week started of Monday with the Sunrise Ceremony and student and staff recognition.
Tuesday night, was the Education and the Student Perspective. The evening activity was a film “Reel Injuns.” which is a documentary about Native actors and artists.
Wednesday, the forum addressed Economic Development and that evening was family fun night at the SGU Multipurpose Building. The night was full of many different activities for kids and adults to participate in such as acupuncture, basketball and door prizes.
On Thursday, there was a discussion of treaties and tribal government, with a talent show that evening.
To end the week long activities, Friday was Elders Day in which they had bingo, entertainment, and a rich discussion from National Treaties, a fashion show  and of course, the Founders Day Wacipi.
The celebration and Wacipi was attended by several people throughout the week including RST Tribal Officials, students, faculty, children, elders and various dancers and drum groups from across the U.S. Next week’s Tribune will have results from the contest Wacipi and more photo’s of the event.
