Antoine J. “Tony” Metcalf was recently elected to take the position of the Two Strike Community Council Representative, and was sworn in February 6. This event took place at the RST Council Chambers.
Formerly a Radiology Technician at the Rosebud Hospital, Tony successfully ran for the new Two Strike Representative. His family has a history working with the tribal council, as both his parents participated and held positions in the Tribal government. Tony is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s degree in Radiology Technology.
By authority vested in the RST Election Board in accordance with RST Ordinance 86-10, otherwise known as the Election Code of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, the Election Board certified the results of the election held on January 26, 2011, with Tony Metcalf as the winning candidate.
The swearing-in ceremony started at twelve o’clock. A shawl was presented, followed by an opening prayer. Rodney Bordeaux took the stage with Tony Metcalf, where he recited the vows. After the vows were completed and the ceremony finished, a dinner followed in the Tribal Office building.
The total number of votes combined for this election was 1,158 votes, with Tony Metcalf receiving 467, Richard F. Whipple 320, Iver D. Crow Eagle, Jr. 67, Ben I. Black Bear, III 169, and James C. Bordeaux 135.
