Lawrence Mundorf

1923-2011

 

Lawrence Elroy “Shorty” Mundorf was born in a rural home near Sparks, Nebraska on August 17, 1923 to Quincy Earl and Lillian Myrtle (Lawrence) Mundorf, and died on March 27, 2011 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska after an extended illness with congestive heart failure.

Lawrence grew up in the Todd County, South Dakota area, going to school in the Lakeview and Mission schools.

He was inducted into the United States Army during World War II, and after reenlisting he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for a period, before returning to the United States where he was stationed in North Carolina until he was Honorably Discharged and came home. 

He settled in the Long Pine, Nebraska area after the service, and started the Pine Salvage and Used Car dealership.  He enjoyed his business and trading.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ione; and a sister, Lois Benz.  He will be missed by his sisters and brothers and their families, Martha Leah Ladely and husband, Glen of Crookston, Nebraska, Lillian Tlustos and family of Pierre, South Dakota, Leland Mundorf and wife, Del of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, Leonard Mundorf and wife, Susanne of Saline, Michigan, and Lloyd Mundorf of Ainsworth, Nebraska;  step-daughter, Tina Handsaker and her husband, Tom of Ainsworth, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church in Ainsworth, Nebraska with Pastor Gary Graesser officiating at the services.  Music was provided by Marjorie Wilkins and Pat Nelson.  Casketbearers were: Jon Mundorf, George Mundorf, Patrick Tlustos, Jim Tlustos, Bob Ladely, Dave Ladely.  Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery in Long Pine, Nebraska. Military Honors were conducted by the Long Pine American Legion Post # 260 and the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.  Memorials were Long Pine American Legion Post # 260.  Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was in charge of the arrangements.
